Why an American History Month?
American History includes everyone. Today, the America we all know and love isn’t the same America it was decades ago or even a few years ago. With the advancements in technology, nothing will ever be the same again.
There is no reason to continue segregating history in America. In many ways, it only promotes the very thing it was intended to fight against. It creates animosity, resentment, and even shame for those whom the month is supposed to recognize. The translation is simple: no one likes being left out; no one likes being singled out.
With an American History Month, all people can come together. No one and no group will be excluded. It would prove to be an invaluable educational asset to the country. It would be a month of total inclusion.
Today, you can be a part of history. Let’s make this happen. We’re all connected and so is all history. It’s time we act that way.
Finally, having an American History Month is not only patriotic but it’s also the right thing to do.
